Motorcycle suits made of high-quality leather

Motorcycle suits made of high-quality leather offer unmatched safety and comfort for motorcycle riders. Our range of leather suits mainly consists of two types of leather, each of which has specific properties and advantages: cowhide and kangaroo leather.

  • Cowhide is known for its outstanding resistance to tearing and abrasion. Therefore, it provides ideal protection in the event of a fall. Cowhide is thick and stiff, which makes it incredibly robust and durable.
  • Kangaroo leather is significantly lighter than cowhide. This makes it more comfortable, especially on long journeys. This leather is also very flexible and offers excellent freedom of movement, without negatively impacting the level of protection. Despite its low weight, kangaroo leather is incredibly durable and very resistant to abrasion.

Protective features of leather motorcycle suits

Motorcycle suits offer comprehensive protection in the event of accidents and falls by combining a range of different protective features.

  • Abrasion resistance: High-quality cowhide and kangaroo leather are made of multiple layers and offer excellent abrasion resistance, which protects the skin of a rider in the event of a fall on asphalt.
  • Protectors: The plastic protectors on the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees absorb impact energy to minimize injuries. An integrated back protector also protects the spine and reduces the risk of serious back injuries in the event of an accident.
  • Reinforced stitching: Leather motorcycle suits have double or even triple stitching, which increases the tearing resistance of the suit and prevents them from ripping open in the event of a fall.
  • Airbag systems: Some modern leather motorcycle suits are equipped with cutting-edge airbag systems. These motorcycle airbags are integrated into the suit and are automatically triggered in the event of an accident. They offer additional protection for the chest, back and neck.
  • Sliders: These external elements are typically made of plastic. They are generally attached to the knees of the suit with Velcro fasteners. Sliders help to protect the leather against abrasion when the rider leans into a turn and their knee comes into contact with the asphalt. Some leather suits have smaller sliders made of plastic or magnesium on the shoulders and elbows.

One-piece vs. two-piece leather motorcycle suits

When it comes to motorcycle suits, there are generally two designs to choose from – one-piece suits and two-piece suits. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

  • One-piece suits generally offer a higher level of safety due to the fact that there is no seam between the jacket and the pants. This reduces the possibility of the suit slipping out of place or opening. They fit snugly and minimize drag. This is particularly advantageous when driving at high speeds on the racetrack. However, one-piece leather suits are less flexible than their two-piece counterparts when it comes to putting them on and taking them off. They are less practical for day-to-day activities or during short breaks.
  • Two-piece suits offer greater variability, since the jacket and pants can be worn separately or in combination. This added flexibility is particularly useful when taking short breaks. Two-piece leather suits are more versatile, since they can be worn for both sport riding and as part of your everyday wardrobe. They can be adapted more easily to suit specific situations. Although two-piece suits are very safe, the zipper joint between the jacket and pants is a potential point of failure. While the zipper is usually always fastened, in the event of a crash, the zipper can tear or it can be painful to fall on the hard zipper.

FAQ about leather suits

How important is the fit with regard to comfort and safety?

When it comes to feeling confident and protected on your motorcycle, a nice-fitting suit is an essential piece of kit. A leather motorcycle suit should fit snugly. Integrated protectors, such as knee shoulder, elbow and knee protectors, should be in the right position. They must not be able to ride up or move out of position. Despite the snug fit, the suit must offer sufficient freedom of movement to ensure that you, the rider, are able to move comfortably. The suit must provide flexibility at your joints to enable optimal operation and control of the motorcycle.

The most important thing is that the suit fits well when you are sat on the motorcycle. Often, a leather suit can look like it does not fit perfectly when you are standing or walking. In some cases, the area around the buttocks can look slightly loose. But this is perfectly normal, since the fit has been optimized for when the rider is sitting on the motorcycle. Make sure that the leather suit does not have any folds when you are sitting on the motorcycle. To increase comfort and make the suit easier to put on and take off, it is generally recommended to wear functional underwear under the suit. This special underwear reduces friction and supports the distribution of impact energy in the event of a crash.

Which properties should you look out for when making a purchase?

When purchasing a leather suit, there are several properties that you should look out for. Not only should the suit fit your individual needs and preferences, it should also meet all your requirements in terms of comfort, protection and functionality.

  • Material and workmanship: Look for high-quality materials that are durable and resistant to abrasion. You should also assess the quality and robustness of the seams, zippers and protectors to ensure that the suit is able to withstand the stress it will be subjected to.
  • The fit: A nice-fitting motorcycle suit should fit snugly, but it should not be overly restrictive or cause pressure points. Ventilation panels or ventilation openings are also an important feature, as these ensure good air circulation and cooling properties while you are riding your motorcycle.
  • Safety features: Check whether the suit has shoulder, elbow and knee protectors that comply with the latest safety standards. Check whether the suit offers the option to use a back protector. Reflective inserts or strips increase your visibility in poor light conditions.
  • Airbag: Do you want to use an airbag in your leather suit? Then make sure the suit you choose is compatible with this or that it already has a built-in airbag. When an airbag is used under a suit that was not designed to be used with an airbag, there is a risk of the leather riding up when then airbag is deployed. This can result in severe crushing/pinching in the crotch area, especially when wearing a one-piece suit.

How do you properly maintain and look after a leather motorcycle suit?

Proper care and maintenance is essential to ensure the safety and comfort of your motorcycle clothing and to make sure that you can continue to enjoy it for a long time. At least once a year, before the clothing is put into storage, you should perform a comprehensive maintenance program. We have put together a few important tips for maintaining a leather motorcycle suit below:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the outer surface of your leather suit with a damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, we recommend soaking the cloth before cleaning. You can use a mild soap to clean the suit. This should be applied using a soft sponge. There are also special leather cleaners that you can use.
  • Care and maintenance: To keep the leather supple and protect it against drying out, you should regularly use special leather care products or leather oil. Apply the leather care product in a thin layer and spread it out evenly on the leather using a soft cloth or sponge. To protect the leather from moisture and dirt, you can use a waterproofing spray. After cleaning or carrying out maintenance/care routines on the suit, allow the suit to air-dry, but do not leave it in the blazing sun or near a heater You should also avoid using a hairdryer or other sources of heat.
